COVID 19 Important Notice

Dear Members,

The world is grappling with an issue of enormous scale and human impact, and our hearts go out to all who have been affected by the outbreak of coronavirus (COVID-19). The COVID-19 virus is dominating the news, and it most certainly dominating your personal and professional conversations, even more so after the address from our President the other night. Even though we are a hobby Club, JOMAC can be no different in terms of actively implementing our response to this situation while operating in an environment of considerable uncertainty.

In support of current recommend best practice, all our are requested to keep high standards of hygiene. As a Committee, we’d like to ask for your support in following the recommendations set out below (and as communicated by SAMAA recently):

  • We should actively try and avoid at any stage hosting activities at the Club that consists of more than 100 Club Members and/or members of the public;
  • Club Members should wash their hands before and after flying, as well as attempt to actively avoid personal contact, such as handshakes with others whilst at the field. As our Club has no running water, we encourage all Members to bring their own water when visiting the Club;
  • In the same vein, we urge members to bring their own hand sanitiser and/or soap for use between flights;
  • As we do not have permanent cleaning staff at the field, we’d also like to appeal to members to clean the toilet after each use. Due to the nature of our eco toilets, no chemical agents can be used to clean or sanitise the toilets. This will stop the bacterial decomposition process. The bowl can however be wiped down with a minimum of water only as per the directions on the card by the toilet.
  • In the event that there are any members of the public who are visiting the field, we’d encourage Members to ensure that they stay at least three (3) meter away from these visitors, explain to them our current precautions as a Club and encourage them to stay at a safe distance;
  • Inform visitors that our Club’s facilities are available for them to use, and guide them in ensuring that they practice the same recommendations followed by active Members in cleaning the facilities after their use.
  • Although this seems a little self-explanatory, we also have to urge members to refrain from spitting at the Club.
  • Lastly, we’d like to urgently appeal to any of our Members who may have recently travelled abroad (within the last two weeks) or are feeling unwell or showing any symptoms to please stay away from our facilities to avoid the possibility of any potential transfer to others at your Club

Please also note that no maintenance activities will take place at the Club over the next three weeks (to avoid close proximal contact whilst travelling to and from the field). The situation will be reviewed, on the 1st April 2020 and further steps will be communicated.

By following these guidelines, we hope that all our Members will still be in a position to safely enjoy our facilities, whilst we weather the storm as a broader community. We hope you are staying well during this difficult time and encourage you to please reach out to the Committee via email or our Whatsapp Group if you have any questions or concerns.
